A hallway bench earns its place by being the thing you sit on to put shoes on, so seat height matters more than it does on a decorative piece. Around 45 cm suits most adults; lower looks elegant and is harder to rise from.
Benches list a tested weight capacity. Where a bench has storage underneath, the usable internal depth is given separately from the outside measurement.
